  3. Keep lights on at all times and use the seat belt.
  4. Call up on the radio at intersections, ramps and loading areas.

Light vehicles

  1. Use a flag or beacon and keep clear of large equipment.
  2. Never overtake haul equipment; approach only after eye contact and a radio call.
  3. Park in designated areas, never in front of or behind equipment.

Pedestrians

  1. Use designated walkways and crossings only.
  2. Wear hi-vis PPE. Do not walk in the haul road.
  3. Never approach a machine without the operator's confirmed acknowledgement.

Road maintenance

  2. Close a section of road with barricades and notify all drivers before work.

7. Stop-work triggers

Stop the job, make the area safe and call the supervisor if any of these happen:

  • Visibility is poor (dust, rain, fog)
  • A berm, edge or surface is damaged
  • Radio contact is lost
  • Anyone enters an exclusion zone

8. Emergency response

  1. Stop, switch on hazard lights and raise the alarm on the radio.
  2. If there is a collision, keep the area clear and start first aid.
  3. Do not move vehicles until the scene is released.
