To give employees a fair way to raise concerns, and to deal with misconduct and poor performance fairly and consistently.

| Coaching | Minor issues or first occurrence | Conversation and agreed actions; noted on file |
| Written warning | Repeated or more serious issues | Valid for 12 months |
| Final written warning | Serious misconduct or failure after a warning | Valid for 24 months |
| Termination | Gross misconduct, such as theft, violence, serious safety violations or drug use | Immediate, with a right to respond first |
Investigations normally finish in 14 days. Employees may be moved to another duty, with pay, while an investigation is under way.
