1. Purpose

To give employees a fair way to raise concerns, and to deal with misconduct and poor performance fairly and consistently.

2. Raising a grievance

  1. Try to resolve it informally with your supervisor or the person concerned.
  2. If that does not work or is not appropriate, write to Employee Relations.
  3. A meeting is held within 5 working days. You may bring a support person.
  4. A written outcome is given within 10 working days.
  5. You can appeal to the Head of People within 5 working days.

3. Disciplinary steps

  • To respond before any decision is made
  • To bring a colleague or union representative
  • To appeal the decision
  • Confidentiality throughout

Investigations normally finish in 14 days. Employees may be moved to another duty, with pay, while an investigation is under way.
