To reduce the risk of injury and error caused by fatigue by setting working-time limits, rest requirements and a way for anyone to say they are too tired to work.
| Limit | Rule |
|---|---|
| Hours in a shift (including overtime) | Max 14 hours |
| Rest between shifts | At least 10 hours |
| Consecutive 12-hour shifts | Max 7 |
| Hours awake before starting a shift | Max 16 |
| Driving home or to the airport after a night shift | Not permitted; use camp transport or rest 6 hours first |
| Overtime | Only with supervisor approval and a fatigue check |
| Who | Duty |
|---|---|
| Employees | Arrive rested. Tell the supervisor if you are too tired. Never hide fatigue. |
| Supervisors | Run the fitness-for-work check. Stop anyone showing signs of fatigue. Do not pressure overtime. |
| Rostering | Build rosters inside the limits and approve swaps only if the limits hold. |
| HR | Monitor hours worked and report breaches monthly. |
Any worker can declare themselves too tired. They will be taken off safety-critical tasks and given time to rest, with no loss of pay and no disciplinary consequences.
