Master data is the set of base catalogs that Assets are registered against. Before you start adding Assets it is worth defining the Companies, the Asset models (the asset type, which is the system's single classifier), the Manufacturers, the Depreciation methods, the Custom fieldsets, the Locations, the Cost centers, the Custodians, the Employees and the Depreciation books, as well as the account map for the CifraHQ Accounting integration.
The old asset categories no longer exist as a separate catalog: they were merged into the asset model.
