Field types

Field types

Applies to: anota, all plans Roles required: Editor or above (to add and edit fields) Regulatory references: none

Overview

This page describes every field you can put on an anota form, in the same groups as the Form elements panel of the editor. For each one you'll see what the person filling in your form sees, and the settings that make that field different from the others.

The examples come from a Customer Feedback Survey for Café Aurora, a coffee shop that asks its guests how their visit went. It uses every field type, so you can see them all in one place.

Key concepts

  • Form elements panel: the list of field types that opens when you click + Add element in the editor. It has a Search fields… box and eight groups: Basic, Contact, Choice, Date & time, Survey, Uploads & more, Payment and Security.
  • Properties panel: the settings of the selected field, on the right of the editor. Fields have up to three sections: Content (what it says), Validation (what counts as a valid answer) and Appearance (how it's laid out). Some fields add their own settings to these sections; this page shows them.
  • Common settings: most fields have a Label (the question), a Help text (a hint under the field), Required, Hidden (shown by a rule) (see Conditional logic) and Width (Full, Half, Third or Quarter). These work the same for every field; see The form editor.
  • Display-only elements: Heading, Paragraph, Image, Divider and Section show content but don't collect an answer, so they have no Required or Hidden (shown by a rule) option.

Task 1 — Add a field and set it up

Prerequisites

  • A form open in the editor (see The form editor) and a role of Editor or above.

Step-by-step

  1. On the Build tab, click + Add element. The Form elements panel opens with every field type, grouped by category. Here the Survey group holds Rating, Scale and Matrix.

The Form elements panel open on the left of the editor, with the Survey group outlined The field types are grouped the same way as the sections of this page.

  2. If you know the name, type part of it in Search fields…: the list keeps only the matching fields. Click a field to add it below the selected field (or at the end of the page), or drag it to the exact spot on the form.

The Form elements panel filtered by the text sig, with the Signature item outlined under Uploads & more Typing "sig" leaves only Signature.

  3. Select the field on the form and open Properties (the gear next to it). Type your question in Label, then adjust the settings for that field type. Here the Rating field "How was your coffee?" is Required and has 5 Stars.

The How was your coffee? rating selected on the canvas, with its Properties panel outlined on the right showing Label, Help text, Required, Width and Stars The Properties panel shows the common settings plus the ones for this type (here, Stars).

Result

The field is on the form with your settings. As with any change, it reaches the public form when you click Publish (or Update if the form is already live).
