Printers

The Printers screen lists every printer LogisticaHQ can print to, and decides which labels and documents each one prints for the whole company. Printers are not added here by hand. They come from the print agent, the small program on a computer at your site that connects its printers to LogisticaHQ.

Open Setup > Printing > Printers.

The Printers list: each printer with its Default switch, name, the computer it is installed on, its DPI, and the DPI, Roles and Delete buttons

What the list shows

ColumnMeaning
DefaultThe company's default printer. Click the switch to make a printer the default. Only one printer can be the default, so switching one on switches the previous one off. Click it again to have no default.
NameThe printer's name as it is installed in Windows on the print agent's computer. Give printers clear names in Windows, such as Zebra ZT411 Receiving or Dock 3 labels, because this is the name everyone sees.
MachineThe computer the printer is installed on, where its print agent runs.
DpiThe printer's resolution in dots per inch. Label printers are 203, 300 or 600 dpi; the value must match the printer, or barcodes and text come out the wrong size.
ActionButtons to set the DPI, set the Roles, and Delete the printer.

How printers get on the list

  • When a print agent starts, it sends LogisticaHQ the list of printers installed in Windows on its computer. New printers appear on this screen.
  • A printer that has been removed from Windows on that computer disappears from the list the next time the agent reports.
  • Deleting a printer here removes it from LogisticaHQ, but if it is still installed on the agent's computer it comes back the next time the agent reports. To remove a printer for good, remove it from Windows on that computer.

Set the DPI

  1. Click the DPI button (the first one) in the printer's row.
  2. Type the printer's resolution: 203, 300 or 600. It is printed on the printer's label or in its manual.
  3. Click Submit.

The Printer DPI dialog with 203 entered

Every new printer starts at 203 dpi. Check it for each label printer before printing labels, especially 300 dpi models such as many Zebra ZT411s.

Set the roles

A role is a kind of label or document. Giving a printer a role tells LogisticaHQ to print that kind of label or document on it.

  1. Click the Roles button (the key) in the printer's row.
  2. Tick each kind of label or document this printer should print.
  3. Click Submit.

The Roles dialog: a tick box for each kind of label or document, such as Bill Of Lading Pdf, Bin, Carrier Label and Commercial Invoice Pdf

RolesWhat they print
Bin, Dock Door, License Plate, Pallet, Tote Master, Tote Content, TagLocation, pallet and tote labels.
Product, Extended Product, Product Packsize, Substitute, DimsProduct and pack size labels.
Carrier LabelShipping labels from the carrier.
Packslip Pdf, Bill Of Lading Pdf, Master Bill Of Lading Pdf, Commercial Invoice Pdf, PdfShipping documents printed on paper.
Purchase Order, Customer Return, Truck LoadReceiving, return and truck-load documents.
Letdown Ticket, Packsize Breakdown Ticket, Work Order, Production Order, Production ProductTickets and labels for replenishment and production.
Kit Dispatch, Kit LpnSurgical tray labels.
Custom Action, Print NoteValue-added service labels and printed notes.

Which printer a label goes to

When someone prints, LogisticaHQ picks the printer in this order, and uses the first step that finds one:

  1. The person's own printers with that role. Printers assigned to the user on their profile, with the role set there. See Users.
  2. The company's printers with that role, set on this screen.
  3. Any of the person's own printers.
  4. Any of the company's printers.

When a step finds several printers, the one marked Default is used; if none is, the first in alphabetical order.

So a warehouse usually sets roles here, for example Carrier Label on the shipping printer and Bin and License Plate on the office label printer, and adds printers on a user's profile only for people who need their own, such as a receiver with a printer at their station.

Delete a printer

Click the red × in the printer's row and confirm. See How printers get on the list for when a deleted printer comes back.
