EBITDA / EBITA Report

EBITDA / EBITA Report

EBITDA / EBITA is a Stimulsoft operations report that presents your business's profitability as the standard top-down waterfall lenders, buyers, and investors expect: starting at Revenue and working down through Cost of Goods Sold, Operating Expenses, Depreciation, Amortization, Interest, and Taxes to Net Income, with EBITDA and EBITA called out as highlighted subtotals along the way.

Where to find it

Open Analytics > Operations Reports, select the Finance category, and choose EBITDA / EBITA. Click Preview to open it in the report viewer, where you can print or export to PDF and Excel. Pick the From and To dates for the period you want to evaluate.

What it shows

Line What it is
Revenue Total sales for the period
Cost of Goods Sold Direct cost of the goods or services sold
Gross Margin Revenue minus Cost of Goods Sold
Operating Expenses All other operating costs for the period (rent, salaries, marketing, etc.)
EBITDA Gross Margin minus Operating Expenses -- Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization
Depreciation Depreciation expense for the period
EBITA EBITDA minus Depreciation -- Earnings Before Interest, Taxes and Amortization
Amortization Amortization expense for the period
Interest Interest expense for the period
Taxes Income tax expense for the period
Net Income The bottom line: EBITA minus Amortization, Interest, and Taxes

EBITDA and EBITA are shown as highlighted subtotals in the report since they are the two headline metrics most often requested for loan applications and business valuations. There is no separate "EBIT" line -- Amortization, Interest, and Taxes flow directly from EBITA down to Net Income.

Setup required (administrators)

Cost of Goods Sold reuses the account your tenant already has configured under Setup > System > Configuration > Operations > Accounting > Sales -- no additional Setup needed there.

Interest, Income Tax, Depreciation, and Amortization each need to be mapped to a real account in your Chart of Accounts, one time, under Setup > System > Configuration > Operations > Accounting > Ebitda:

Setting Description
Interest Expense The account where interest expense is posted
Income Tax Expense The account where income tax expense is posted
Depreciation Expense The account where depreciation expense is posted
Amortization Expense The account where amortization expense is posted

If your Chart of Accounts still uses the standard default accounts, these four are already pre-filled and the report works correctly with no Setup. If you customized your Chart of Accounts, open each of the four settings and select the matching account from the dropdown.

Until a setting is mapped, that line in the report simply shows 0.00 -- an unmapped account never blocks the rest of the report from rendering, so Net Income, EBITDA, and EBITA still display correctly using whichever roles are configured.

Tips

  • Run the report for your fiscal year to date to see year-to-date EBITDA at a glance, or for a single month to check a specific period.
  • If a line unexpectedly shows 0.00, check that its account role is mapped under Setup > System > Configuration > Operations > Accounting > Ebitda.
  • Export to PDF when preparing figures for a bank loan application or a business valuation discussion -- EBITDA and EBITA are the two figures most commonly requested in those conversations.
